NAVFAC Southeast awards $31.5M contract for Wharf Bravo modernization at NAS Pensacola

Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a $31.5 million construction contract Sept. 28 for the comprehensive repair and recapitalization of Wharf Bravo at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, Florida.

The project will revitalize waterfront infrastructure supporting Navy and U.S. Coast Guard operations in the Gulf Coast region. Modernization of the installation’s deep-water port infrastructure will help sustain expeditionary readiness and support naval and joint maritime assets.

“Our shore facilities are power-projection platforms that directly affect fleet readiness and national security,” said Lt. Cmdr. Zeke Shaffer, NAVFAC’s resident officer in charge of construction for NAS Pensacola. “A lethal fleet requires resilient, modernized infrastructure to deploy and operate effectively. By executing these vital repairs at Wharf Bravo, we are ensuring our warfighters and Coast Guard partners have the maritime infrastructure they need to train, operate and win.”

The recapitalization effort will extend Wharf Bravo’s service life, strengthen its structural integrity against harsh marine conditions and modernize utility systems to meet current operational requirements.

Major work includes substructure repairs, deck reinforcement and pile remediation designed to withstand heavy operational loads. The project also upgrades marine mooring and fender systems to safely accommodate larger vessels and severe sea conditions.

Wharf utility connections, commonly known as hotel services, will be modernized to provide berthed vessels with reliable electrical power, potable water, telecommunications and sewer services. Additional work includes pavement and storm drainage improvements, site preparation, environmental compliance measures and waterfront security upgrades.

Wharf Bravo serves as a primary operational interface for Navy and U.S. Coast Guard maritime capabilities.

Work will be performed at NAS Pensacola by Orion Government Services LLC of Houston, Texas, with an estimated completion of September 2028.
